Description
Kurayoshi Pure Malt 700ml is labelled The Kurayoshi Pure Malt Whisky, and it comes from Matsui Shuzo, a Tottori Prefecture company with the date 1910 on its label. Matsui lists malt as the only ingredient and says selected malt whiskies are finished with deep natural water from Mt Daisen, the highest peak in the Chugoku region. Its product page does not say where the malts were distilled, and retailers class it as a blended malt.

Try it neat first, then with a little water or a large ice cube to open up the raisin and vanilla notes. It also makes a tidy highball, and it pairs well with roasted nuts, grilled eel or a mild blue cheese.
- Malt whisky only, per Matsui’s listing
- Bottled at 43% ABV
- Finished with Mt Daisen natural water
Matsui describes a soft, fragrant and fresh malt aroma, with raisin, nut and vanilla across a balance of acidity, bitterness and sweetness on the palate.
A fair choice for someone curious about Matsui’s whisky range who likes a mellow malt with some dried fruit in it, and the white box suits gifting.
