What is the difference between gold and silver tequila?

Silver or blanco tequila is clear and unaged. Gold tequila gets its colour from added caramel or a splash of aged tequila, which gives a slightly sweeter, softer taste than most silver tequila.

Is gold tequila aged?

Most gold tequila is not aged in its own right. The colour usually comes from caramel colouring, or from blending unaged tequila with some reposado or anejo, which is why it is also called joven.

How is gold tequila usually served?

Gold tequila is often taken as a shot with salt and a wedge of lime, or mixed into margaritas and tequila sunrises. Its mellow sweetness suits mixed drinks that use juice or soda.
