Guinness leads the Irish side, with Guinness Draught in nitro cans. Coopers brings a rich Australian extra stout, and Kiwi brewers Panhead, Garage Project and Crimson Badger add local takes such as Panhead Blacktop Stout.
Styles of Stout
Dry Irish stout is light bodied and roasty, while extra and foreign stouts are fuller and stronger. Stout grew out of Porter, and both sit within our Beers range.
Stout FAQs
What is the difference between stout and porter?
Stout and porter are close relatives, and the line between them is blurry. Stout usually leans on roasted barley for a drier, more coffee-like finish, while porter tends to be a little softer, with more chocolate and caramel.
Why is Guinness so smooth?
Guinness Draught is served with nitrogen as well as carbon dioxide. The nitrogen forms tiny bubbles that create the thick, creamy head and soft texture. In cans, a widget releases the gas when you open it.
What food goes with stout?
Stout pairs well with rich, savoury food such as beef pie, stews and barbecued meat. Its roasted notes also suit oysters and chocolate desserts, where the bitterness balances the sweetness on the plate.
