About Benriach

The distillery was built in 1898 by John Duff in Speyside. It kept its own floor maltings running for much of the 20th century, and since the early 1970s it has distilled peated spirit as well as its classic unpeated style. Benriach has also produced a triple distilled style.

How to Enjoy Benriach

Try The Original Ten or The Twelve neat or with a few drops of water, with shortbread, apple desserts or soft cheese. The smoky expressions are good in a highball with soda, or alongside smoked salmon and blue cheese. Keep the 21, 25 and 30 for slow sipping.

Benriach FAQs

Is Benriach a peated whisky?

Benriach makes both. The Original Ten and The Twelve are unpeated, fruit-led Speyside malts, while The Smoky 10, The Smoky Twelve, Smoke Season and Authenticus use peated malt for a smoky character.

Where is Benriach made?

Benriach is made at its distillery near Elgin in Speyside, in the north east of Scotland. It was founded in 1898 by John Duff and is one of the few Speyside distilleries known for regular peated spirit.

What does Benriach taste like?

The unpeated range is known for orchard fruit, honey and malt, with oak and spice in the older bottlings. The smoky expressions add peat smoke over that same fruity base.
