About Elijah Craig
Heaven Hill launched Elijah Craig bourbon in 1986. The brand is named after Elijah Craig, a Baptist preacher in Kentucky who, according to popular legend, was the first to age whiskey in charred oak barrels. Historians say the story cannot be proved either way.
How to Enjoy Elijah Craig
Sip Small Batch neat or over a large ice cube, or use it in an old fashioned. Add a splash of water to Barrel Proof. The rye makes a good Manhattan. Pair with smoked brisket, caramel desserts or dark chocolate.
Elijah Craig FAQs
What is Elijah Craig Toasted Barrel?
Toasted Barrel is Elijah Craig Small Batch given a second ageing in a new oak barrel that has been toasted rather than charred. This adds extra sweetness, with notes of toasted oak and caramel.
What is the difference between Small Batch and Barrel Proof?
Small Batch is a blend of barrels brought down to a standard bottling strength. Barrel Proof is bottled straight from the barrel without added water, so each batch varies and many drinkers add water.
What are the New Zealand Exclusive Elijah Craig barrels?
These are single barrel bottlings chosen for the New Zealand market. Each comes from one numbered barrel, so the flavour is specific to that cask and stock is limited to what that barrel produced.
