About Mount Gay

Mount Gay is distilled in St Lucy, in the north of Barbados, on an estate once known as Mount Gilboa. Its 1703 deed is the basis for the brand's claim to be the oldest commercial rum distillery still working. The blends combine rum from column stills and double copper pot stills, aged in charred American oak.

How to Enjoy Mount Gay

Eclipse is a natural fit for rum punch, a daiquiri or a simple rum and ginger ale with lime. Black Barrel suits an old fashioned or a highball with cola. Sip XO and 1703 neat or with a single ice cube, alongside dark chocolate, grilled pork or banana desserts.

Mount Gay FAQs

Where is Mount Gay rum made?

Mount Gay rum is made in the parish of St Lucy in northern Barbados. The distillery's oldest surviving deed is dated 1703, and its rums are blended and aged on the island before bottling.

What is the difference between Mount Gay Eclipse and Black Barrel?

Both blend column and copper pot still rum. Eclipse is the lighter, everyday style for mixing. Black Barrel uses more pot still rum and is finished in charred bourbon casks, giving more spice and oak.

Is Mount Gay a dark or golden rum?

Mount Gay rums are aged golden to amber Barbados rums rather than heavily coloured dark rums. Eclipse is light and fruity, while XO and 1703 are older blends with more oak, vanilla and dried fruit character.
