About Tamdhu
Tamdhu was built in 1897 in the village of Knockando in the Spey valley. Its name comes from the Gaelic for little dark hill. After a short closure, Ian Macleod Distillers bought it in 2011 and restarted production, and the core range is matured in sherry oak casks.
How to Enjoy Tamdhu
Pour neat or with a drop of water to bring out the sherry fruit. Try the 12 Year Old with a fruit cake or dried apricots, and the older bottlings with dark chocolate or a hard cheese such as aged gouda.
Tamdhu FAQs
Where is Tamdhu whisky made?
Tamdhu is made at its distillery in Knockando, in the Speyside region of Scotland, beside the River Spey. It has been on the same site since 1897 and is owned by Ian Macleod Distillers.
What does Tamdhu taste like?
Tamdhu's sherry cask maturation gives a rich, fruity style, with notes of dried fruit, toffee, orange peel and spice. The older ages add more depth and oak.
What is Tamdhu Batch Strength?
Batch Strength is a cask strength Tamdhu released in numbered batches, such as No. 7 and No. 8. It is bottled without being diluted, so a little water can help open up the flavour.
