The company traces its roots to 1824 in the Venezuelan town of Angostura, which gave the bitters their name, and has been based in Trinidad since the 1870s. This amaro brings that familiar bitters flavour into a liqueur that can be sipped on its own.
Serve it neat or over ice after dinner, or try a Trinicano: equal parts Amaro di Angostura and sweet vermouth topped with soda water. It also works in Manhattan and Negroni variations, and pairs well with dark chocolate or a cheese board.
- Made by the House of Angostura, Trinidad and Tobago
- Built on Angostura aromatic bitters
- Bottled at 35% ABV
Deep amber in the glass, with aromas of cinnamon, dark chocolate and aromatic bitters. The palate is spice-led rather than heavily herbal, with warm cinnamon, liquorice, clove and cardamom, and a dry, bittersweet finish.
A good bottle for amaro drinkers who like spice and for home bartenders who use Angostura bitters.
