Balvenie 14 Year Old Caribbean Cask 700ml is a Speyside single malt from The Balvenie distillery in Dufftown, Scotland. It spends 14 years in traditional oak casks and is then finished in American oak casks that previously held a blend of West Indian rums, before being bottled at 43% ABV.

The Balvenie distillery stands in Dufftown, in the heart of Speyside, and was built by William Grant in 1892 beside his Glenfiddich distillery. It is still owned by William Grant & Sons, and it is one of the very few Scottish distilleries that still runs its own traditional floor maltings, turning part of its barley by hand before it is dried in the kiln.
To create the finish, Malt Master David Stewart filled American oak casks with his own blend of West Indian rums. When he judged the casks ready, the rum was removed and the 14 year old whisky went in for its final period of maturation, picking up tropical fruit and toffee from the wood.
Sip it neat, add a splash of water, or pour it over a large ice cube. It also makes a rich Old Fashioned or Rob Roy, and pairs well with caramel desserts, grilled pineapple or a mild blue cheese.

Expect toffee, candied lemon and ripe banana on the nose, with fresh pineapple, vanilla and salted caramel on the palate over stewed orchard fruit. The finish is soft and lingering, with sweet oak.
