Description

Bollinger Rosé Magnum NV Gift Box 1.5L is the non-vintage rosé Champagne from Bollinger in Aÿ, France, in a magnum that comes in a gift box. Built on the house’s Special Cuvée, it is a blend of about 62 percent Pinot Noir, 24 percent Chardonnay and 14 percent Meunier, coloured with a small share of still red wine.

Give the magnum plenty of time in the fridge or an ice bucket, then pour into white wine glasses. With a rosé this structured, the table is where it belongs: a whole roast duck with cherries or a tuna tataki both work, and so does a plate of Iberico ham. Keep the bottle in the ice between pours.

  • Rosé Champagne from Bollinger, Aÿ, France
  • 1.5L magnum format, comes in a gift box
  • Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Meunier with a small share of red wine

More than 85 percent of the fruit comes from Grand and Premier Cru vineyards. The red wine, around 5 to 6 percent of the blend, is sourced from Aÿ and Verzenay, two villages long associated with powerful Pinot Noir. It is a small amount, but it brings a tannic edge to the finish as well as colour, which is why this wine has more grip than many pale rosé Champagnes.

Bollinger has worked from Aÿ since 1829 and remains independent and family run. Its wider style leans on Pinot Noir and on careful handling of reserve wines, and the Rosé follows that approach. The wine is aged for at least three years before release, and the magnum format holds the equivalent of two standard bottles, which makes it a practical size when one wine is carrying a whole meal.

Red currant, cherry and wild strawberry define the nose, with a touch of spice behind them. The palate balances structure, length and vivacity through velvety bubbles and wild berry flavour, finishing fresh and mineral with some tannic grip from the red wine.

Suited to a shared table of people who like their rosé Champagne on the drier, more structured side.
