Courvoisier VSOP 700ml is a French cognac from the house founded at Jarnac in 1828, blended from four crus: Grande Champagne, Petite Champagne, Borderies and Fins Bois. The brand says the blend is aged for up to twelve years in its own barrels. Each cru has a job to do, with Fins Bois giving the floral lift and the others bringing depth and stone fruit, and it is bottled at 40% ABV.

Pour it neat in a tulip glass, add a small splash of water, or use it in a Sidecar. Courvoisier suggests Brie alongside it, since the mild sweetness of the cheese matches the floral, nutty side of the spirit.
