Description
Don Julio 1942 750ml is an añejo tequila made from 100% Blue Weber agave in the Los Altos highlands of Jalisco, Mexico. It takes its name from 1942, the year Don Julio González began making tequila as a young man, and was first released in 2002 to mark the 60th anniversary of that start.
The agave is grown in the red clay soils of the highlands and harvested when fully mature. The piñas are slow roasted in traditional ovens before being crushed, fermented and distilled in small batches. The tequila is then aged for a minimum of two and a half years in American white oak barrels, which gives it its deep amber colour and rich, rounded character. It is bottled in the tall, slender bottle that has become closely tied to the brand.

Sip it neat at room temperature in a small snifter or tequila glass, or over a single large ice cube. Pair it with dark chocolate, caramel desserts or slow-cooked meats such as barbacoa.
- Añejo tequila from Los Altos, Jalisco, Mexico
- Made from 100% Blue Weber agave
- Aged at least two and a half years in American white oak
Expect caramel, milk chocolate and vanilla on the nose, with roasted agave underneath. The palate is rich and soft, bringing toffee, warm oak and baking spice over cooked agave sweetness. The finish is long and warm, with lingering vanilla and a touch of spice.
Where blanco tequila shows the bright, peppery side of agave, an añejo like this leans towards the sweeter, oak-driven notes more often found in aged spirits. That makes it a natural crossover for whisky and cognac drinkers, and a good introduction to sipping tequila slowly rather than as a shot.
A considered gift for a tequila lover, and a bottle worth opening for a special occasion or a slow after-dinner pour.
