The GlenDronach was founded in 1826 in the Valley of Forgue, making it one of the older working distilleries in the Highlands. Over almost two centuries it has built its name on rich, fruity spirit and a long relationship with sherry casks, and its core range is known for the deep, dried fruit character that sherry wood brings.
The Master’s Anthology series was created to show different sides of that sherry cask experience. Ode to the Dark leans fully into the darkest end of the spectrum. Pedro Ximénez sherry is made from sun-dried grapes and is one of the sweetest and most intense sherry styles, and casks that held it pass on notes of raisin, molasses, coffee and chocolate to the whisky resting inside.
Bottling at 50.8% ABV keeps the texture full and the flavours concentrated, while skipping chill filtration leaves the natural oils in the spirit. That makes it a whisky that responds well to a little water.
Pour it neat into a tulip glass and taste it first at full strength, then add a few drops of water and let it sit to open up the fruit. It is a natural partner for dark chocolate, espresso, a rich Christmas pudding or a slice of aged hard cheese at the end of a meal.

On the nose expect mocha, black cherry and dark chocolate, with crème brûlée, raisin, brown sugar and a little ginger. The palate brings espresso, crème caramel, black grape and mint chocolate ganache. The finish is long, with dark fruit, rich chocolate and lingering sherry sweetness.
A strong pick for sherry cask whisky lovers who want a richer, higher strength dram, or a considered gift for a single malt fan.
