Glengoyne was founded in 1833 at Dumgoyne, just north of Glasgow, and sits on the Highland Line between the Highland and Lowland whisky regions. Many Scottish distilleries use some peat to dry their malt, but Glengoyne relies on warm air, which keeps its spirit clean and fruity.
The 12 year old came into the core range in 2009 and was the first Glengoyne in that range to use bourbon casks alongside sherry wood. The sherry casks give the whisky its richness and colour, while the bourbon barrels add vanilla and coconut. The distillery keeps the colour natural.
Enjoy it neat, with a few drops of water or over a single ice cube. It sits nicely with roast pork and apple sauce, a cheese board or a tarte tatin, and makes a good introduction to sherry-influenced Highland malt.

On the nose there is toffee apple, honey and a little dried fruit. The palate is rounded and sweet, with sherry richness, vanilla, toasted nuts and gentle spice, leading to a long, slightly oily finish with a touch of oak.
