Description
Grappa Di Bolgheri Sassicaia 500ml is a Tuscan grappa distilled from the pomace of the Sassicaia vineyards at Tenuta San Guido in Bolgheri, on the Tuscan coast. It is made mainly from Cabernet Sauvignon with a smaller share of Cabernet Franc, distilled by Poli Distillerie and aged for four years in French oak barriques.

Tenuta San Guido is the estate behind Sassicaia, the Cabernet-based red that made Bolgheri famous. In 1994 Marchese Nicolò Incisa della Rocchetta invited Jacopo Poli to take over production of the estate’s grappa. Poli Distillerie was founded in 1898 by Giobatta Poli and is run today by Jacopo, Giampaolo, Barbara and Andrea Poli.
The process starts as soon as the wine leaves the skins. The fresh marc is soft pressed straight after maceration and distilled immediately, so the aromas stay fresh. Distillation takes place with steam over about three hours in one of the oldest working stills in Italy, and the heads and tails are discarded so only the heart of the run is kept.
That heart then spends four years in French oak barriques. The oak softens the natural intensity of the spirit, adding toast and vanilla, which sets it apart from clear, unaged grappas.
Serve it neat at room temperature in a tulip glass, and give it a moment to open up before sipping. It pairs well with almond biscuits or dark chocolate after dinner, and makes a calm, slow finish to a long Italian meal.
- Pomace from the Sassicaia vineyards, Tenuta San Guido
- Distilled by Poli Distillerie in a historic steam still
- Aged four years in French oak barriques
On the nose you will find ripe Cabernet fruit and herbal notes, framed by toasted oak and vanilla. The palate is finely structured and warming, with dark berry fruit and gentle spice, and the finish is long, smooth and lightly toasty.
Grappa from one of Italy’s most famous wine estates makes this a natural pick for collectors of Italian wine and spirits.
