Old Pulteney Harbour 700ml is a Highland single malt Scotch whisky from Pulteney Distillery in Wick, on Scotland’s far north-east coast. It takes its name from the town’s harbour, once among the largest fishing ports in Europe, and matures in four styles of American oak ex-bourbon cask: first-fill, second-fill, refill and re-charred.
James Henderson founded the distillery in 1826, and the carton carries the brand’s description, The Maritime Malt. There is no age statement on this bottling, so the character leans towards bright fruit and sweet oak.

Pour it neat first, then try a few drops of water to bring out the fruit and malt. It also makes a tidy highball with soda and a strip of lemon peel, and sits well beside smoked fish or a mild hard cheese.

Expect vanilla, fresh coconut, green apple and a little honey on the nose. The palate moves through vanilla fudge and pear to lemon zest, cinnamon and white pepper, closing dry with a hint of brine.
