Description

Perrier-Jouët Grand Brut Magnum 1.5L is the 1.5 litre magnum of the main non-vintage Champagne from Perrier-Jouët in Épernay, equal to two standard bottles. It blends Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Meunier, with a share of reserve wine in the mix to keep the house style steady from one year to the next.

Allow several hours in the fridge and serve at about 8 to 10 degrees in tulip glasses. It suits a table of shared plates, particularly smoked fish, soft cheeses and roast chicken.

  • 1.5 litre magnum, the equivalent of two 750ml bottles
  • Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Meunier with reserve wines
  • Made by Perrier-Jouët, founded 1811

Expect peach, white flowers and some brioche, with a crisp, dry palate and yeasty notes behind the fruit. The finish is fresh and clean.

Grand Brut is the entry to the Perrier-Jouët range. Non-vintage blending combines fruit from several sources and adds older reserve wine, which is how the house aims for a consistent character. Chardonnay gives freshness, Pinot Noir brings structure, and Meunier from the Marne adds fruit. The proportions move around from one blend to the next.

Perrier-Jouët was founded in 1811 by Pierre-Nicolas Perrier and Rose-Adélaïde Jouët, a couple who split the work between the vineyards, the cellar and sales. Shipments to Britain began in 1815 and to the United States in 1837. Their son Charles led the firm until 1878. Vineyard holdings include plots in the Grands Crus of Cramant and Avize. The house also produces its Belle Epoque wines in the bottle designed around Émile Gallé’s anemones of 1902. Séverine Frerson took over as cellar master in 2020, the first woman to hold the position, and only the eighth person in the role since the founding.

A sensible large format for a table of several people who want a dry, non-vintage Champagne.
