Buy Soju Online in NZ
All of our soju comes from South Korea, led by Chum Churum, Jinro and Good Day. Pick the original styles, zero-sugar Saero, or flavours such as peach, plum, lychee, yoghurt and green grape in handy 360ml bottles.
Styles of Soju
Most soju falls into two camps. Original or plain soju, such as Jinro Chamisul Original, is clean and lightly sweet, and Chamisul is known for being filtered through bamboo charcoal. Fruit soju is lower in strength and softer, with Good Day Lychee and Chum Churum Apple Mango as typical examples. For a brewed Japanese alternative, see Sake, or browse all Speciality Spirits.
How to Choose Soju
Choose original soju if you want something to sip with Korean barbecue, fried chicken or spicy stews, as its neutral taste cuts through rich food. Fruit flavours suit anyone who finds plain soju too sharp, served over ice or with soda.
Soju FAQs
What does soju taste like?
Plain soju tastes clean and neutral with a slight sweetness, a little like a softer, lighter vodka. Fruit soju tastes noticeably sweeter, with clear flavours such as peach, grape or lychee, and is gentler on the palate than the original style.
What is the difference between soju and sake?
Soju is a distilled Korean spirit, while sake is a brewed Japanese drink made from rice and koji. Soju is clear and clean, often fruit-flavoured, and served chilled in shot glasses. Sake has a rounder, rice-driven flavour and can be served cold, at room temperature or warm.
What is fruit soju?
Fruit soju is soju blended with fruit flavours such as grapefruit, peach, green grape or plum. It is sweeter and lower in strength than original soju, and is usually served well chilled in small glasses. Check the label for the exact strength of each flavour.
