Description

Ca’ Del Bosco Satèn 2019 750ml is the 2019 Vintage Collection Satèn from Ca’ del Bosco in Lombardy, northern Italy, a vintage Franciacorta made only from white grapes, with Chardonnay at 85% and Pinot Blanc at 15%. Satèn is a Franciacorta style known for a soft, creamy texture, and the winery compares it to the refinement of silk. It is Franciacorta, not Champagne.

Serve it at about 8 to 10 degrees in a flute or a slim tulip glass. As an aperitif it pairs nicely with a plate of oily fish such as smoked eel or sardines on toast, and it also suits seafood pasta at dinner.

  • 2019 Franciacorta Satèn Millesimato
  • Chardonnay 85%, Pinot Blanc 15%
  • An average of 48 months on lees

The texture is the main point here: a creamy mouthfeel and a particularly soft, elegant profile, which the winery credits partly to its lower dosage. Retail notes for this wine mention toasted almonds and honeyed apricot, with a fresh finish that keeps those richer notes in check.

The wine has a longer history than its current name suggests. Ca’ del Bosco introduced it in 1978 as Crémant, renamed it Franciacorta Vintage Satèn in 1990, and has included it in the Vintage Collection since the 2008 vintage.

The 2019 draws on 12 Chardonnay vineyards planted an average of 32 years ago, across Erbusco, Adro, Cazzago San Martino, Corte Franca and Passirano, along with 2 Pinot Blanc vineyards in Passirano. Together they yield the 14 base wines in the blend. Small, loose bunches and low yields defined that season, after a wet spring and a very dry June.

Grapes pass through sorting and the winery’s berry spa, a washing system with three soaking vats and a drying tunnel, before crushing without oxygen. Fermentation happens in small oak casks, with barrel maturation of 5 months. Tirage followed in May 2020, then an average of 48 months on lees. Dosage is equivalent to 0.5 grams of sugar per litre, and disgorgement uses the winery’s patented system, which works without oxygen.

A natural choice for drinkers who prefer a softer, silkier sparkling wine over a sharper, more austere style.
