Bogle Phantom Red 750ml

Bogle Phantom Red is made by Bogle Vineyards, a family winery in Clarksburg, California, whose family has farmed there for generations. The Phantom is a dark, brooding blend led by Petite Sirah and Zinfandel, aged around two years in American oak barrels.

Bogle Phantom Red is best served at room temperature, around 16 to 18°C, in a large red wine glass. Opening the bottle half an hour ahead or a quick decant helps the spice and dark fruit come through.

Bogle Phantom Red typically tastes of blackberry, boysenberry and dark plum with black pepper, vanilla and toasted coconut. It is full-bodied with velvety tannins and a long, spicy finish. Fruit and oak character vary a little by vintage, and a few years in bottle softens the tannins and adds savoury depth.

Bogle Phantom Red goes well with barbecued pork ribs, pepper steak and smoky beef brisket. Its ripe fruit and spice also suit lamb kofta, chilli con carne and strong cheeses like aged gouda. Its firm tannins are softened by protein and fat, so richer red meat dishes show it at its best.
