About Isle of Jura
The first legal distillery on Jura was licensed in 1810 by the island's laird, Archibald Campbell, at Craighouse. The original site closed in the early 1900s, and the current distillery on the same spot began production in 1963. Its very tall stills give a lighter spirit.
How to Enjoy Isle of Jura
Sip Jura neat, with water or over ice. The Bourbon Cask and 12 Year Old suit a highball with soda. Try the Rum Cask with dark chocolate and the 18 Year Old with aged cheddar.
Isle of Jura FAQs
Is Jura an Islay whisky?
No. Jura is its own island, next to Islay, and the whisky is usually grouped with the Scottish Islands. Most Jura is lightly smoky at most, rather than the heavy peat many Islay malts are known for.
How is Jura whisky made?
Jura is made from malted barley at Craighouse and distilled in unusually tall copper stills, which give a lighter spirit. It is aged in oak, with some releases finished in rum, rye or wine casks.
What does Jura taste like?
The house style is light and sweet, with honey, vanilla and dried fruit, and some bottlings show a touch of smoke. Cask finishes add their own notes, such as tropical fruit from rum casks or spice from rye casks.
