Charles Heidsieck Blanc des Millénaires 2006 Gift Box 750ml is a mature vintage Champagne from the Reims house, made only from Chardonnay and blended from five top crus in the Côte des Blancs. It comes in a gift box. The 2006 spent a long period ageing in the house’s chalk cellars and was disgorged in March 2019.

Blanc des Millénaires began with the 1983 vintage, created by cellar master Daniel Thibault, and only selected harvests have followed. The usual sources are Cramant, Avize, Oger and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, all Grand Cru villages, plus Vertus. The 2006 draws on five crus from that area, in line with the wine’s long-standing approach.
The wine is fermented in stainless steel and rests on fine lees until bottling in the June after harvest. It then typically spends about eight to ten years in the crayères, the chalk chambers that Charles-Camille Heidsieck bought in 1867, which reach 30 metres high and hold a stable temperature and humidity. For the 2006, the dosage was 7 grams per litre at disgorgement in March 2019, leaving a dry style with the fruit in front and plenty of chalky detail behind it.
Ripe stone fruit and citrus lead, with buttered toast, chalk and a distinctive touch of gunflint. The wine is powerful and mouthwatering on the palate, with opulent fruit and a creamy, saline, lemony finish.
