It is put together from a mix of first-fill American oak bourbon casks, first-fill European oak sherry casks and refill casks, and it comes presented in a gift box.

Glengoyne distillery stands at Dumgoyne, a short drive north of Glasgow, and has been licensed to distil since 1833. Its stills sit just north of the Highland Line, so the whisky is classed as a Highland single malt. Glengoyne uses unpeated barley dried with air rather than peat smoke, and runs its stills slowly, which the distillery says gives the spirit its clean, fruity character. Ian Macleod Distillers has owned the distillery since 2003.
At 15 years the whisky has had time to take plenty from the wood. Bringing bourbon and sherry casks together gives a balance of vanilla and citrus from the American oak and dried fruit and spice from the European oak sherry wood. The refill casks add a gentler influence that lets the fruity Glengoyne spirit show through.
Pour it neat into a tulip glass, or add a splash of water to bring out the citrus. It works well with roast pork, a cheeseboard or a lemon tart after dinner.

Expect sweet citrus on the nose, with lemon, caramel and toffee popcorn alongside soft dried fruit and vanilla. The palate is creamy, with honey, nuts and gentle spice, and the medium finish carries spice, oak and a dusting of cocoa.
