Glengoyne has been distilling at the foot of Dumgoyne hill since 1833. The distillery sits right on the Highland Line: its stills are in the Highlands, while its warehouses across the road sit in the Lowlands. Glengoyne is owned by Ian Macleod Distillers and is known for making its whisky from unpeated barley dried by air rather than peat smoke.
The distillery also runs its stills slowly, which gives the spirit more contact with copper and a lighter, fruity character. That clean, fruity spirit then spends at least 18 years in sherry-seasoned oak, picking up the dried fruit, nut and spice that this expression is known for.
Pour it neat into a tulip glass and allow time for it to open; a few drops of water can lift the fruit. It suits slow evening sipping, and pairs well with dark chocolate, walnuts, dried fruit or a mature hard cheese.

The distillery’s notes describe red apple and ripe melon on the nose. The palate is full bodied, round and rich, with macerated fruits, marzipan, walnuts, warm spices and Seville marmalade, and the finish is long, warm and dry. Time in the glass brings out more of the nutty, spiced side.
