Pol Roger Brut Reserve Magnum NV 1.5L is the house’s non-vintage Brut Réserve Champagne in the magnum format, which holds the same volume as two standard bottles. Made in Épernay by a family-owned house, it combines Pinot Noir from the Montagne de Reims, Pinot Meunier from the Vallée de la Marne and Épernay area, and Chardonnay from Épernay and the Côte des Blancs.

A magnum takes longer to chill than a standard bottle, so allow extra time in the fridge or an ice bucket before pouring at around 8 to 10°C. Serve it with a side of cured salmon to begin, then with roast pork or a whole baked fish at the table.
- 1.5L magnum of non-vintage Brut Réserve
- Three grape varieties from 30 crus
- Aged in cellars 33 metres below Épernay
Expect pear, mango, white jasmine and brioche on the nose, with the palate moving on to apricot jam, beeswax and honey. Fresh acidity gives shape to the wine’s body, and the finish lingers with tangerine, cardamom and anise.
The house’s survival owes a good deal to what happened in February 1900, when part of the cellars and buildings collapsed. Around 500 casks and 1.5 million bottles were lost. Maurice and Georges Roger, the founder’s sons, had taken over after his death in 1899, and their response helped the firm recover. That same year they also gained the right to use the Pol-Roger name.
Today’s Brut Réserve is built from equal parts of the three varieties, with roughly 25% reserve wine. Pinot Noir gives the blend structure and body, Pinot Meunier brings fruit and freshness, and Chardonnay adds aromatic lift and elegance. The wine stays in the cellars for about four years and each bottle is riddled by hand.
A practical format for a long family lunch or a wedding table, where one bottle is shared across several courses.
