Pol Roger Brut NV Gift Box 750ml is the house’s non-vintage Brut Réserve Champagne from Épernay, presented in a gift box. The wine is an equal blend of Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay, drawn from 30 crus, with about a quarter of the blend made up of reserve wine from earlier harvests.

Serve it chilled in a tulip glass or white wine glass, at around 8 to 10°C. Pol Roger suggests it as an apéritif or alongside a whole meal, so it can start with smoked salmon blinis and carry on to roast chicken.

Pear and mango lead on the nose, followed by honeysuckle, white jasmine, vanilla and brioche. The palate brings quince jelly, apricot jam and acacia honey, held together by a fresh structure, and the long finish shows candied orange peel, tangerine and a touch of anise.
The name goes back to Pol Roger himself, who made his first wine sale in January 1849 at the age of 18, after his father, a notary, could no longer work. Two years later the young firm moved from Aÿ to Épernay, where it has stayed. Sir Winston Churchill later became one of its most loyal customers, and the business remains with the founder’s descendants, now reaching a sixth generation.
The wine spends about four years in the house cellars, 33 metres beneath Épernay. Every bottle is riddled by hand, then rests for at least three months after disgorgement before release. Pol Roger’s aim is to reproduce the same style and quality each year, which is why the reserve wines matter: they even out differences between harvests.
