Description
The Macallan Harmony Collection II 2022 is Inspired by Intense Arabica, the second release in The Macallan’s Harmony Collection. This Speyside single malt was created by whisky maker Steven Bremner to evoke a freshly pulled espresso, using sherry-seasoned European oak casks with seasoned American oak added to soften the profile, and it is bottled at 44% ABV.

The Macallan is based at Easter Elchies, near Craigellachie in Speyside, and has made whisky since 1824. The distillery is known for its small, curiously shaped copper stills and for its long tradition of maturing whisky in sherry-seasoned oak casks, both European and American, which give its single malts their rich, fruity style. The distillery is owned by the Edrington group, and a new production site on the estate, designed by Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners, opened in 2018.
The Harmony Collection launched in 2021 with Rich Cacao and explores links between whisky and other flavour worlds, alongside more sustainable packaging. For Intense Arabica, Bremner worked with five coffee experts who followed the Arabica bean from field to cup, then chose casks that would echo those flavours. No coffee goes into the whisky itself; the character comes entirely from cask selection. The outer packaging is made using coffee bean husks, a by-product of coffee production.
Serve it neat or with a drop of water after dinner, perhaps alongside a coffee. It pairs well with dark chocolate, tiramisu or roasted hazelnuts.
